Course Description:
This course aims to develop a specialised aesthetic knowledge and technical expertise through two principal focuses: classical music (c.1740-1810) and in then early-20th century music, particularly French (centred on the mature work of Claude Debussy c.1900-1915), and German (centred on the free-atonal works of Schoenberg and others from the Second Viennese School c.1900-1920). The module aims to enable a student to build upon first year work on "common practice" harmony and early 20th century music, with much more style-specific harmony and pastiche composition work and to demonstrate that understanding practically in related musicianship skills.
